propeller's editorial guidelines
Propeller is the first national channel dedicated to new film and television talent. We showcase the best work in the UK and we exist to nurture new talent. We help content producers get better at what they do. We encourage them to produce innovative and creative content within the regulatory framework of the Ofcom Broadcasting Code. We have our own Editorial Guidelines.
Our Editorial Guidelines apply to all of Propeller's content. Our aim is to promote excellence and integrity amongst our content producers as well as fostering and protecting the trust we have with our audience. The guidelines help to raise awareness of some basic editorial values and principles. They also enable content producers to think through all kinds of editorial issues, make considered judgements about them and produce their final content to high ethical and editorial standards.
Propeller content is produced by a diverse group of new film and television talent and packaged in different ways by Propeller itself to promote the content. The main responsibility for content rests with the person who created it. It is not practical for Propeller to second-guess the many editorial and ethical judgements made by its content producers during the production process. Propeller understands and respects the need for producers to have the freedom for their creativity to flourish. However, in return, Propeller relies on the producer’s honesty, integrity, talent, skill and good faith when choosing the content it broadcasts.
Propeller is responsible for ensuring the appropriate balance of subjects and viewpoints across its broadcast schedule as well as judging whether difficult, challenging and potentially harmful or offensive material is justified by the context, before scheduling it appropriately.
Anyone submitting content to Propeller is expected to familiarise themselves with our Editorial Guidelines, inform themselves about the Ofcom Broadcasting Code and to think about how aspects of both apply to their programme.
Propeller does not intend its Editorial Guidelines to be a statement of industry standards, or to suggest proposing a legal burden on any content producer, or Propeller TV, that would go beyond the normal standards required by law.
